Cooling tower
Bécancour, Québec
In October 2014 Transport Chainé has been entrusted to handle the challenging task of transporting all the components of a massive cooling tower arriving the Port of Bécancour from China and destined to the Becancour Alcoa plant located few kilometers from the port.
The 6.50m diameter main component needed to pass under a pipe rack located at the entrance of the Port of Bécancour with only a 7.00m vertical clearanre. The combined height of the transport combination was 7.50m and the structure could not be avoided...
Transport Chainé's team had an plan in mind: remove the tower from the hydraulic transporter and lower it down to a set of hydraulic skidding system installed on the pavement. The tower was then skidded over a 45m distance (until cleared the pipe rack structure) and jacked up again so the hydraulic transporter can slowly back up under the tower. The transport resumed the same day and the delivery to the Alcoa plant was completed on the same shift thank to the hard work and precise coordination of all operations.
